Deena Kastor is Ridiculous

deena.jpg The NYRR in New York was thrilled to be opening up their new world-class track & field facility out Randall's Island. To kick things off right, NYRR played host to the USA Men's and Women's 8K Championships. While the course seemed slightly uninspiring, the field was pretty cool, especially since Deena Kastor came out to try and break the 8K record.

Man, that woman is quick.

And such a sponsor’s dream. After the race, during the post race interview, she thanked the sponsors and the competitive field for putting on such a world-class event that left her only 3 seconds shy of the record.

deena2.JPGSuch a good sport, but I was there. She blew away the field nearly 50 seconds, and the rest of the field was running plenty fast. (see the picture to the left. That's the lead motorcycle, Deena and no one else).

After the race, we ran by Deena Kastor out on her cool down. I said 'Great Race' and kept on going, almost shocked at the fact that how could this famous Olympian just be out by herself. What I should have done was turned around, ran with her for a couple of strides and said what an awesome time it was watching her spectacular finish in the Olympics.

Oh well, I guess there is always next time.
