Caught a story on 60 Minutes about the 'Badwater 135' and two of the competitors for this event. I remember reading a little classified in the back of Runner's World a long time ago but this thing is insane!
* 135 Miles
* 8,500+ ft elevation change
* Running through Death Valley and up to the the top of the Mt. Whitney trail head.
This course makes marathoning look like chump change (although, I do beg to differ on that still). The craziest part of the story was how addicted these two competitors were to running:
* Dean Karnazes (who ended up winning the Badwater '04) runs 25-30 miles before going to work
* Pam Reed runs up to 5 times a day! Not a week, a day.
